My friend Simon and I went on an adventure to Barnes to visit the London Wetland Centre. We saw a lot of ducks (and some swans and a couple of otters) and got rained on and had a very nice time.

Painted faces in the park

I spent most of the weekend nursing a sore head! It was totally worth it though, as my weekend included being let loose on my friends’ faces with face paints (as seen above). Nothing like having a whiskey in one hand and a paintbrush in the other.

Apologies for the hiatus; I just haven’t been taking photos. I kept finding myself in cool places without my camera, which kind of defeats the whole point of having a camera. In the meantime, enjoy our faces.

Drink, Shop & Do

One of the amazing people I am blessed to call my friends, Henna, took me on a tea and cake date as part of my birthday present. We chose Drink, Shop & Do as I love it there and Henna had never been. I can barely remember what cake I had as I basically inhaled it (something with caramel?), and Henna had a coconutty concoction that was really, really good. We also indulged in a teacup full of sherbet but hardly made a dent in it because, well, it was an entire teacup full of sherbet. Still, I do love it at Drink, Shop & Do. I’ve taken a few people there in the year and a half since I was introduced to it. I’ve also been to Early Doors Disco in their downstairs bar a few times as a couple of dear friends DJ there. Check it out! It’s pretty cool.

High Tea of Highgate

I’m spoiling you with Bethany recently. She and I went for tea in High Tea of Highgate and it was SO CUTE. We also befriended these two little boys who shared a pot of tea. I know, tea. At their age (11-12), I was getting mucky outdoors on my bike and generally being a little bit feral. Tea in a teashop did not feature in my view of the world.

Burger Queen (finally)

Here is a small selection of my photos from Burger Queen! Bethany was a finalist so I toddled down with my camera and red lipstick. The only way I can describe Burger Queen is the safest (and most fabulous) place on earth. No matter what you look like, what you wear, who you fancy, what you identify as – there’s no wrong answer at Burger Queen. Everyone is great and everyone is welcome. It takes some of the key tenets of feminism and queer theory and presents them to you in a way that makes you laugh, feel good and perhaps shed a tear. As a lifelong fat girl, I thank Burger Queen for making me feel unreservedly great about myself for an evening, tucked away from the bullshit in a room full of fantastic people.

Issy’s Milky Way

Look where Bethany and I went today! I’d heard a few whispers about Issy’s Milky Way so we decided to check it out. It’s adorable. There are cupcakes and other sweet things, milkshakes and coke floats, toasties and a lovely waiter with a very tall quiff. We each got a milkshake and Bethany got an Elvis cupcake and we marvelled at the various kitsch wares for sale around us.

Season’s Eatings

I haven’t really baked anything for a good while! Sam has very kindly had me to stay this week so I figured it was a prime opportunity to whip up some cupcakes! And they even survived the train up. These are “candy-cane” cupcakes – vanilla with swirled peppermint frosting from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book!
