O Christmas Tree

I’ve never had my own real Christmas tree before. I’ve only helped out with the tree at my parents’ house (my mum really enjoys decorating it) and then last year we just had a tiny, tiny one. This year my flatmate brought home a real tree, so we went all out in decorating it. It warms my heart to come home and see it! Simple pleasures. I hope everyone had a good Christmas!



Giving into flights of fancy

I know you’ve all missed Bethany while she’s been living it up across the water in MontrĂ©al (I know I have). I had really burnt out by the time Christmas rolled round, but spending my first day off of the festive season with this scorchin’ hot thang soon remedied that. We hit up two of our regular Soho haunts, Maison Bertaux (for the gorgeous cakes) and Candy Bar (for the amazing cocktails), and laughed ourselves silly.

In the spirit of the new year, I’m going to share my most important resolution for 2011: to be more frivolous. With weekend trips to Dublin and Prague already booked, it’s looking hopeful that I’ll keep this one. As I’ve ambitiously named this blog Guide To A Charmed Life, I figure I should strive towards living a life as charmed as possible. And if I can’t be frivolous at 22, when can I be?



Oh the weather outside is frightful…

My friend Anna and I went to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park for work this week. We took a couple of disposable cameras with us (I didn’t fancy subjecting my SLR lens to the bitter cold) and the combination of winter greyness and cheap camera produced some rather cute, retro results. Winter Wonderland is a lot of fun, despite the cold, and the smell of mulled wine and German confectionary definitely put us in the festive mood.

Maybe I have a problem…

I’m on something of a baking rampage recently. This time it was shortbread biscuits. I’ve never made biscuits before but these turned out alright! I think another batch of these is in order in the run up to Christmas.



‘Tis the season to bake cakes

My best friend gave me Nigella’s How To Be A Domestic Goddess book as an early Christmas present, so this week I decided to road test her carrot cupcake recipe. Oh my, they were good.

It has taken me a while to get into the festive spirit this year, but I think I’ve finally got there. Much cooking, baking and seasonal frivolity on the way!
