I haven’t really baked anything for a good while! Sam has very kindly had me to stay this week so I figured it was a prime opportunity to whip up some cupcakes! And they even survived the train up. These are “candy-cane” cupcakes – vanilla with swirled peppermint frosting from the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book!

I’ve never had my own real Christmas tree before. I’ve only helped out with the tree at my parents’ house (my mum really enjoys decorating it) and then last year we just had a tiny, tiny one. This year my flatmate brought home a real tree, so we went all out in decorating it. It warms my heart to come home and see it! Simple pleasures. I hope everyone had a good Christmas!

We affectionately termed Paros the ‘Windy Crag’ because…well, it’s windy and rocky. There’s apparently a constant stream of wind between Paros and Naxos, and this makes Paros a popular windsurfing spot. I grew fond of the Windy Crag, particularly on the day we went on the long, long walk documented in the above photos. We walked from Parikia over to a ruin we could see in the far distance. It involved walking through beaches and over hilly and rocky terrain and it took about 4 hours there and back but we got there! I’d say it was my favourite part of the whole trip.

I know these are long overdue! The onset of winter has made me lethargic and lazy. These are a mix of shots from Athens. I can’t adequately sum up Athens. I’ve visited a number of cities and I’ve never experienced anything like the views Athens has to offer, and there are so many vantage points from which to see them. Seeing the city from such height gave me a sense of just how massive cities are and, in the case of Athens, just how old and sprawling they can be.

Greece was stunning. Athens is an amazing city for history and the views were unbelievable. Here are a few shots from around the Acropolis to get the ball rolling. More to come!

Here are some more from the Horniman Museum! I’ll definitely be going back there, probably before their exhibition on Bali finishes.

I’m off on a jaunt to Greece tomorrow, armed with a couple of lenses and a couple of disposable cameras. With a bit of luck, I’ll come back with some decent shots to share. Enjoy half term, everyone!

I went on a day trip to Southend for work. The weather turned out quite nice and I got a few decent shots!

I love a good (and safe/well-lit) night time walk. I try to go on one at least once a week, but unfortunately it doesn’t always work out that I have a few hours to spare. I had to introduce myself and say one of my favourite things to do last week and I said, “I’m Annabel and I like walking.” 100% truth.
